Thank you to Gold Coast City Marina and Bradford Marine for all your great work preparing Holy Cow for winter sailing in North Queensland.
It was wonderful to take a break in our Sydney/Whitsundays trip and have your team of professionals give Holy Cow her big 10 year overhaul.
And it has paid off- 2019 has been our most successful in 20 consecutive years of competing at Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks!
At Airlie Beach Race Week Holy Cow was the smallest (& slowest) yacht in her division and although we destroyed 2 gennakers, we did manage to make it onto the podium and at the end of the week we were rewarded with the prestigious Boss Hog Trophy for Boat of the Regatta.
At Hamilton Island Race Week the planets really aligned for us with 2 light wind days (battled to finish but good for the handicap), followed by 4 of Hamo’s heaviest days ever. Holy Cow revels in big winds and North Sails had miraculously come to our rescue replacing our gennaker almost overnight so we survived some very tough racing with no breakages.
From position 15 on day 1, we climbed higher up the leader board with each race and finally reached the top on the last day. We won on a countback- Holy Cow’s first ever division win at Hamilton Island Race Week!
It was lovely to have Derek & Briar visit Holy Cow (with a great goody bag!) and invite us to catch up with the team on Bumble Bee for post race drinks. The social side of Hamo always rivals the racing for reasons to return, but the facilities and services at Gold Coast City Marina guarantee we’ll be coming back north next year.
Thanks to everyone,
John & Kim
